Hillel’s family has lived in Jerusalem for at least eight generations. His great grandmother told him of the cordial relations that prevailed between Muslims and Jews in the old city of Jerusalem. Jewish and Muslim mothers babysat for each others children and Muslim teenagers stood up if an elderly Jew walked by. All that changed when it became clear to the Arabs that the new waves of Jewish arrivals had not come to settle quietly but to create their own state.
